Every golfing enthusiast should understand that at the moment when he takes a swing and makes an impact on the ball? That’s when the most important part of the game takes place.
Thus, it seems like nothing you do before or after the swing matters that much.
Here are a few tips from our friends at Golf Club Guru on how to improve your golf swing.
Of course, impacting the ball like a Pro can be rather challenging. It takes lots of practice and patience to learn the art of a perfect swing.
However, with clear guidelines and handy tips on how to develop an ideal golf swing impact position, you will reach the goal faster and with less effort.
In this article, we are going to give you these tips!
Before we can go to our tips, it would be wise to define what we call a perfect stance and what are its main characteristics. Let’s take a closer look at this matter!
First of all, a perfect impact position requires distributing your body weight correctly. Ideally, if you are right-handed, 60% to 70% of your body weight should be distributed to your left foot.
Same way, for left-handed players, the same percentage of the weight should be distributed to the right foot. This is the first and one of the most important points for building up a correct stance.
Thus, whenever you get out on the course, be sure to pay attention to the weight distribution!
The next important characteristic of a perfect stance is the position of your wrists.
For a right-handed golfer, a right wrist should be bent backward, while a left wrist should remain flat or slightly bowed.
Respectively, left-handed players need to do this the other way around.
Now, let’s move to the last but not less vital characteristic – the position of the club.
First of all, it is important to pay attention to the clubface. It should be square and de-lofted. Also, your club shaft should be leaning forward.
If you can adhere to these rules, you will be able to build up a correct impact position.
Our last tip is to pay special attention to the role and motions of your hands, as this is one of those things that have the biggest influence on your stance.
Probably the most important tip for improving your stance is to twist the clubface and then move the handle – this will “open up” the clubface right at the top of a backswing.
These tips will help you add enough power to your swing. However, these aren’t the only hacks that can come in handy!
Here are a few additional recommendations to help you swing like a pro:
1. Make a stable turn
For higher consistency, you need to eliminate the unnecessary sideways motion during the backswing.
In simple words, you need to learn how to make a stable turn.
2. Avoid the scoop
The easiest way to avoid the scoop is to hold the club with a bit of flexed wrist instead of keeping it extended.
Holding it with an extended wrist, as a rule, generates poor contact and unnecessary scooping.
3. Pinch
The better the impact position you develop, the more control and distance you can get in your shots.
To reach these goals, experts recommend pinching the golf ball and turf when you are at the lowest point of your swing arc.
4. Keep attention to your hips
As was already mentioned earlier in our article, the correct distribution of weight matters a lot for a proper impact position.
Keeping most of the bodyweight on the right-side limits the impact you can make and restricts your hips’ movement.
Instead, keep most of your weight on the left side and make sure that your hips move first.
