Womens Golf Day …

Thursday, March 30th, 2017

womens golf dayPopular online golf club The Social Golfer & FORE! WOMEN(the website dedicated to guiding women who want to give golf a go) have got together with Bletchingley Golf Club in Surrey to celebrate Womens Golf Day on 6th June 2017….

The day is designed to give those attending and who are new to the game a fun ‘taster’ for the sport.

The Social Golfer team will host the event on their Event pages and task its male members to bring at least one female friend or family member to the day, thus growing the sport.

Experienced TSG PRO members can opt to play 18 holes while their female guests will join Felicity from FORE! WOMEN and the TSG team, where they will receive an introduction to the basic skills of golf: putting, chipping, pitching and long shots.

They will also be provided with plenty of opportunities to ask questions of us about their potential golfing journey.

Bletchingley’s General Manager Steve Cookson has also offered his Golf Pro to be on hand to give additional coaching and advice during the day.

There will also be prizes to encourage a fun atmosphere followed by a light lunch.

Women will be able to attend the day for only £20 including lunch, making the day both affordable and welcoming.

Taking TSG’s PRO members as an example, if 1 in 10 brought along a non-playing female guest to the Womens Golf Day at Bletchingley, this would mean that we would be able to send a positive message to all male golfers.

Womens Golf Day – What’s it all about…

Womens Golf Day is keen to remove as many barriers to golf as possible and it does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of sex, race, colour, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, or sexual orientation – everyone is welcome.

The Social Golfer’s, Ian Mullins said “We take equality in golf very seriously and actively encourage both Ladies and Mixed golf on the site! Our online golf club can play a huge role in encouraging women to participate in golf.  We want to support each new female who participates in the day by giving them a 3 month free PRO membership to the website including in the cost of attending our day!”

He continues, “When we learnt about Women’s Golf Day from PR agency Medi8 whilst at the PGA Show in Orlando, we knew immediately that we wanted to get involved. This is an opportunity for any girl or woman to try golf for the first time in a fun, non-intimidating environment alongside existing golfers.”

Founder of FORE! WOMEN, Felicity Dunderdale said. “A recent report found that one of the top reasons for female golfers taking up the game is due to influence from a male peer.  So we, The Social Golfer and FORE! WOMEN, decided to take part in the day together to test the claim that men can play a huge role in encouraging women to participate in golf; to exercise their potential, free of fear and judgment.”

She went on to say “78% of male players,’ in this report, stated that their partners do not play’.

Medi8’s Emma Ballard, Women’s Golf Day Ambassador in the UK, showed her support by commenting “It’s great to see a different approach being taken by The Social Golfer team, FORE! WOMEN and Bletchingley Golf Club. Women’s Golf Day sets to engage, empower and support women who are looking to get into golf and for those that already participate in the sport. This doesn’t just have to come from other women and this event will prove how influential a male role model can be. I’m looking forward to supporting this event on behalf of Women’s Golf Day.”

London Golf Show – Beef Johnston…

Monday, September 12th, 2016
Beef Johnston & TheSocialGolfer.com

Beef Johnston & TheSocialGolfer.com

As always, we like to bring you the best from the London Golf Show each year and this time we were especially flattered that TSG were asked to the Press Junket by the organisers.

London Golf Show – Beef Johnston…

And were given the chance to meet and interview the main man right now Beef Johnston – so another feather in the TSG cap!

European Tour star Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston won his first  event in 2016 – the Spanish Open but also he won a host of new fans at this year’s show.

Having arrived at 1pm for his interview, Beef stayed way longer than anyone anticipated, staying until gone 6pm.

He spent much of his time having the obligatory ‘selfie’ with both exhibitors and visitors to the show but all with a smile on his face – this guy is the real thing!

The 27-year-old, Beef Johnston, who is based at North Middlesex Golf Club, found time to be interviewed by us, as well as holding a question-and-answer session with a dozen or so golf journalists.

beef-johnston-thesocialgolfer-com-4London Golf Show – Beef Johnston, What he said…

Commenting on his first visit to the show he said: “It’s great to see the enthusiasm of the youngsters here…you want to get as many kids involved as possible – if there are no kids coming through, then there is no future for golf.”

“They’re the most important thing, you need them to play and to develop, and they’ll fill up all the golf courses around. They’ll then get their kids involved and that’s the cycle you need. And shows like this help to get them enthusiastic about the sport and keep them interested.”

When asked why you wanted to come along to Bluewater he said “I’m just having fun here; it’s nice having fun and meeting new people. It’s great to be able to send people home with a smile on their face – that’s important to me. I love watching the golf trick-shot boys.”

“I always go home and try to hit those shots and I can’t … I can’t hit one on the volley! They’re amazing and really cool. I’ve enjoyed the whole show.”

During his visit, the Spanish Open champion also faced a series of questions on the event’s stage from youngsters who had participated in a pre-show online campaign.

One asked him if he knew how many tees he could hold in his impressive beard and the affable Londoner even allowed them to try to find out.

He wasn’t planning on going home to better the result, although he laughed: “I think I’ll wait until next year and maybe I’ll come back and we’ll have a really good go at it.”

London Golf Show – Beef Johnston – What they said about him…

beef-johnston-thesocialgolfer-com-4The organisers of the show were thrilled with his input…”Beef Johnston was incredibly generous with his time, signing autographs, posing for pictures – with stand-holders as well as visitors – and generally helping people enjoy themselves.”

“There aren’t many top sports people you can imagine who would allow kids to insert golf tees into their beard! He is such a refreshing change from the norm and his personality is a shot in the arm from which golf can only benefit!” said Simon Jones – Events Director
