Golfing Break in Spain – Casa Kimmi Villa …

Friday, November 21st, 2014

xxx

Thinking of taking a golfing break in Spain? Look no further than Casa Kimmi Villa!

Golfing break in SpainThe villa is semi-detached with its own private pool.

The villa has 6 bedrooms (sleeps 14), 3 bathrooms, 3 American style kitchens, a spacious lounge, patios off each of the upstairs bedrooms. Ceiling fans in all rooms, Satellite TV, Wi-Fi (internet), large patio area off lounge with garden furniture.

There is a barbecue, large table with chairs, sun loungers and parasol around the pool. Only 20 minute drive from Murcia Airport and 40 minutes from Alicante Airport.

Ideal for those wanting a Golfing Break in Spain.

Of course, the main attraction is golf….

There are 32 golf courses in this area (five Championship courses), four of the five are within a ten-minute drive and La Finca is about twenty.

Let us know which golf courses you wish to play and we will arrange discounted green fees, book your preferred tee times (courses get booked up well in advance) and organise transport to and from the courses.

Golfing Break in Spain – The Courses….

Villamartin

A par 72 course, next to Villamartin Plaza, the course is not easy but not as hard as some of the others, some interesting holes very suited to all handicaps, the prices are quite reasonable as well.

It gets very busy from October through to November with a lot of Scandinavians coming to play, this applies to all the courses.

Las Ramblas

This course is by far the hardest of all four courses, with water and ditches about 10 metres deep and about 15 metres across, at Las Ramblas you have to play the course and select clubs very carefully, but again it is a course for all handicaps.

La Finca

This course is about 20 minutes away from the Villa and is flat and even, but again with ditches and water which makes it interesting, it is a pleasure to play here but book early as La Finca is always very busy.

Campoamor

A very nice even course, nothing too difficult, but again you have to play the course. At Campoamor you can’t just send a long drive then hope to get on the green as with trees and very coarse rough you have to pick your shots very carefully.

Las Colinas

This is by far the best course although the price reflects this; Barcelona, Real Madrid and even Liverpool have sent their players here for a bit of fun. However, Las Colinas can again get very busy and is costly.

Golfing Break in Spain –  what else is there to do?

The area is surrounded by all types of restaurants, bars and children’s adventure playgrounds.

The old cliché about golden sands is true as the beaches are Blue Flag and beautiful, again with many restaurants and bars and only a 10 minute drive away.

Also, we have adult and children’s Go-Carting, which if you get a group of you can be a lot of fun, Jet-skiing, water-skiing and Para-Gliding are also some of the main attractions and all within an 8km radius of the villa.

Golfing Break in SpainFor those not golfing there is the famous La Zenia Boulevard Shopping Centre, which they can spend days browsing around.

It is the biggest shopping centre of the province of Alicante, and has about 150 shops, with great free entertainment most weekends and daily during holiday season.

It is the biggest shopping centre of the province of Alicante, and has about 150 shops, with great free entertainment most weekends and daily during holiday season.

VISIT KENT LAUNCHES GOLFINKENT.CO.UK TO SHOWCASE THE COUNTY AS ONE OF ENGLAND’S TOP GOLFING DESTINATIONS …

Visit Kent has launched a brand new website in order to showcase the county as one of England’s top golfing destinations that offers outstanding golf courses, a wide range of golfing accommodation and a rich variety of off-course attractions.

The ‘Garden of England’ possesses a rich tradition and history of golf that dates back to over a century ago and boasts over 100 courses, including three Open Championship venues. Kent’s courses are all conveniently located within easy reach of London and its international airports and effortlessly accessed from Europe via Eurotunnel, Eurostar and the port of Dover.

The creation of the new site dedicated to golf in Kent is part of Visit Kent’s ongoing strategy to build on the county’s strong golfing legacy and capitalize on the recent successful staging of The Open Championship at Royal St George’s in 2011.

GolfinKent.co.uk

Golfinkent.co.uk has given the county a much needed showcase for its first class golf offering. Afterall the ‘Garden of England’ has a golfing pedigree that goes back over 100 years and boasts a trio of Open Championship venues, traditional links layouts and some notable lowland and parkland courses that make it one of England’s most attractive and diverse golfing destinations,” commented Cheryl Parker, Head of Development, Partnerships & Funding at Visit Kent.

Moreover Kent is easily accessible from the hub of London and its transport systems, from south east England and of course it is extremely well connected to Europe, with which the county has a huge affinity. We are confident that the new website will drive increased traffic to Kent where golfers will not only enjoy our courses but the plethora of other attractions of which we are so proud.

Testament to the quality of its courses, Kent has hosted an incredible 17 Opens over the years, the first of which in 1894 at Royal St George’s marked the first time the prestigious major had been held outside Scotland.

Since then The Open has returned to Royal St George’s 13 times whilst Royal Cinque Ports staged the global event in 1909 and 1920 and nearby Prince’s hosted it in 1932.

Some of the Golf Courses in Kent …

Littlestone and North Foreland, part of the Regal Five on the east coast, have also played their part in Kent’s rich golf history as venues for numerous Open Qualifying tournaments and various notable amateur championships.

Inland Kent boasts two of England’s newest courses that have quickly gained recognition as excellent tracks; Chart Hills, designed by living legend Sir Nick Faldo, with its extensive water hazards and extravagant, varied bunkering, has quickly established itself in various course ranking whilst the London Golf Club’s two courses bear all the hallmarks of their designer, Jack Nicklaus, and provide an exhilarating test of golf.

This October some of the world’s top professionals will descend on the International Course to compete in the 50th anniversary staging of the Volvo World Match Play Championship as it returns to England after several years on the continent.

Kent also offers a host of hidden gems, designed by celebrated designers such as Harry Colt and James Braid, as well as numerous less testing courses set in glorious, undulating countryside that can be enjoyed by golfers of all levels and families looking to play together with the perfect examples of these being the Pentland courses of Austin Lodge, Boughton and Etchinghill and Lullingstone Park near Sevenoaks.

Staying in Kent …

Complementing the golf in Kent, the county houses a range of good quality accommodations from boutique hotels to coaching inns that are perfect for travelling golfers whilst also offering a plethora of cultural and historical attractions from cathedrals to castles, gardens to stately homes, beaches to coastal walks.

Traditionally known for Dover Sole and Whitstable Oysters, the ‘Garden of England’ is also fast developing a name for itself as a gastronomic destination to go with its long-standing tradition of producing local ales – Shepherd Neame is England’s oldest brewer – and its growing reputation as a producer of fine wines.

Weekend breaks and longer golf tours from two to six days can easily be booked directly through the new website or tailored to suit individual requirements.

Next month Visit Kent will be showcasing Golfinkent.co.uk to a wide audience of golf consumers at the London Golf Show when it takes place at Bluewater, Kent from November 14 to 16.

Golf legend wants more defibrillators…

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014
Bernard Gallacher

Bernard Gallacher

After former golfing legend and TV pundit Bernard Gallacher survived a cardiac arrest last year, the theme of golf and defibrillators has been pushed into the spotlight, we hope that people have taken note of the facts and act now as it could save lives.

Why is golf a vulnerable sport when it comes to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?

You only have to look at the facts and figures to see that golf as a sport is one of the most vulnerable activities when it comes to heart-related problems due to the nature of the game, the demographics, and the amount of time players spend on a course.

In the UK, according to golfolution.com , about 12% of the adult population play golf (5.8 million), 7% of which play regularly (3.4 million)

Whilst elsewhere it has been reported that golfers spend an average of 4-6 hours a day on the golf course. US AED (Automated External Defibrillator) distributor Zoll Medical say the average age of an SCA victim is about 65 years old, whilst 62% of golfers in the UK are aged 35+.

Therefore, it stands to reason that golfers are at a high risk just by the numbers.

The average time of day for someone to have a heart attack is between 6-11am, which is when golfers usually take to the course for their morning round.

Around 4 million people attend golf clubs each year whilst only a third of clubs have a defibrillator on site.

This is something which must change to ensure the safety of ALL golfers who are out on the fairway.

Why should golf clubs prioritise defibrillators?

Given the demographics of their members and the facts on SCA, it is imperative that golf and country clubs make having a defibrillator on site – their top priority.

If a defibrillator is used within three to five minutes after a cardiac arrest, the chance of survival is increased from 6% to 74% whilst if effective CPR is provided immediately after an SCA it can double a victim’s chance of survival.

Ambulance response times to cardiac incidents is approximately 8-14 minutes.

However if there is an incident way out on the 10th hole of a golf course, it is going to take significantly longer for paramedics to reach a cardiac arrest victim.

It is vital that all golf courses invest in a defibrillator for this very reason alone.

How Bernard Gallacher’s life was saved?

In Bernard Gallacher’s case, it is a remarkable story of being in the right place at the right time, if that’s the best way to phrase it, for having a cardiac arrest.

Gallacher suffered an SCA at the Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen, Scotland and three nurses at the hotel saved his life with a defibrillator.

The former Ryder Cup captain, 64, was attending a corporate dinner event and was to deliver an after-dinner speech when the incident occurred.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the nurses at the event, they were able to save his life and Gallacher made a full recovery with no lasting effects.

The immediate action and shock of a defibrillator was crucial in the outcome of Bernard’s survival.

It is because of this that Bernard and his family have decided to launch a defibrillator campaign and will be championing to have defibrillators accessible at golf courses throughout the UK.

The health benefits of regular golf …

Golf’s powerful combination of stress-busting exercise, fresh air and camaraderie can help promote long term heart health’ – getintogolf.org

Playing regular golf has excellent benefits to you and your heart health, it can reduce blood pressure and cholesterol and reduces your chances of suffering from stroke and diabetes.

The amount of walking undertook whilst playing a round of golf is extremely healthy.

An 18-hole game could be burning up to 900 calories as the combined walking, toning, muscle strengthening and the carrying or pulling of your golf bags whilst you also could be walking around five to six miles.

The Department of Health recommends that we should be doing around 150 minutes of exercise throughout the week to keep your heart healthy and your muscles strong.

This can of course include walking, and that to truly work your heart you should be walking at a pace that brings out a mild sweat at least. Golf is the perfect way to attain those 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise to help strengthen your heart.

So why not take a look at the nearest golf course to you, using The Social Golfer, the unique golf course guide is written by golfers, for golfers and will help you locate your nearest course no matter where you are in the world.

Whilst you’re there, you could also join in golf discussions, find your nearest golfing events, check out exclusive offers and if you become a member, join in the monthly leaderboard.

Unfortunately, an SCA can strike at any time and can be unexpected, therefore, it is vital that golf clubs have a defibrillator on site as quite literally, every minute counts.

Especially when some golf courses can become quite remote and the journey time for help can be quite long, which is not what’s needed should a cardiac event occur.

Now it’s just about making sure that all golfers are ‘heart safe’ for peace of mind of all when taking on early morning round of 18!

Manchester Golf Show – 2014

Thursday, May 8th, 2014
Manchester Golfers

Manchester Golfers

Last weekend saw the Manchester Golf Show take place at Event City at the Trafford Centre.

The event was the second year it had been held in the sports-mad city and golfers came from far and wide.

Last year’s show was attended by over 9k people , so we were keen to see what was on offer at this year’s show …

Manchester Golf Show –  What was going on?

The event, which is the only dedicated golf exhibition in the North West, offers visitors the opportunity to try and buy the latest golf equipment from the leading brands in the game, find new courses to play, as well as destinations to visit.

Plus you can also get valuable Professional tips on the game from putting to driving. The show was  supported  Retail Partner ‘Express Golf’ who had  a well stocked shop with some great offers, including everything from gloves and golf balls to the latest drivers and power trolleys.

We here at TSG visited the show on Saturday the 26th April and was very impressed with some of the brands on show.

Manchester Golf Show – What we liked?

Brands that particularly stood out were innovative golf shoe brand Biion, new golf fashion clothing brand Taylor Grey, our old friends premium golf accessories Groovefix and the next big thing in golf trolleys  golfskatecaddy, although the latter would be better described as a ‘boys toy’.

We must also pay lip service to the defibrillator shop (but we’ll be telling you more about this in another post).
